The Institute for Aspiring Principals
Who: Assistant Principals recommended by their school districts and/or superintendents
Why: To acquire skills and knowledge necessary to become a future principal in a "high priority" school
When: First Meeting TBA. Monthly meetings throughout school year. Meetings will be during school hours
What:
This new program is designed to prepare selected future principals to become leaders of high priority schools, whether these schools are in urban, suburban. or rural areas.
- Approximately 20 assistant principals, identified and recommended by their school districts as future principals, will participate in an intensive learning and self-assessment program that will help participants prepare to meet the challenges of leading schools that are, or are in danger of being "needs improvement" schools.
- Participants will meet monthly throughout the 2006-07 school year to study issues of race and ethnicity, culture, equity, efficacy, change, community involvement, use of all types of data to complete a school profile, and other topics that have an impact on increasing student achievement.
- Members of the institute will participate in interactive learning sessions, large and small groups, and self-assessments designed to strengthen leadership skills.
Cost: $1,400 for Center members $1,600 for non-members
