TOPIC Formative Assessment

Formative assessment strategies like performance tasks, checklists, rubrics, and portfolios address the Georgia Performance Standards, target important curriculum goals, and motivate students to learn. This workshop will help school leaders and teacher teams implement a process to target key standards and develop teacher checklists to guide instruction. Participants will also create engaging performance tasks to differentiate instruction, develop vocabulary lists correlated to the GPS, design criteria checklists to help students assess their own work, and create rubrics to assess the quality of the students’ work.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES In this TWO-DAY WORKSHIP, participants will learn how to:
    * Target key standards and curriculum goals

    * Create teacher checklists using the elements from the standards to guide instruction;

    * Develop vocabulary lists with definitions and examples;

    * Create a performance task scenario to motivate students to learn;

    * Develop group and individual student checklists correlated to the standards to provide feedback;

    * Extend the checklists into analytical rubrics that provide descriptors of quality;

    *Share strategies to examine student work;

    * Develop an action plan to share the assessment process with other teachers

BOOK: How To Assess Authentic Learning, 5th ed. from Corwin Press, fall 2009, will be issued to each participant as an integral part of the workshop. We have raiseed the tuition to cover the cost of the book.

NOTE This workshop is particularly helpful to school teams. FOR PRINCIPAL CENTER MEMBERS, every 5th person is FREE for each team of 4 registered participants from the same school or Associate Member group.
